Bill is also author of The Helmsman (1985)/2003), Galactic Convoy (1987/2003), The Trophy (1990/2007), The Mercenaries (1991/2008), The Defenders (1992), The Siege (1994), Canby's Legion (1995), and The Defiance (October 1996): Science Fiction novels of the Space Opera genre - originally published by Warner-Aspect. The Helmsman, Galactic Convoy, The Trophy, and The Mercenaries are available in revised, "Director's Cut Special Editions" by special order at major bookstores and on line at Amazon.com and Booklocker.com.

Baldwin--who at one time didn't believe people could live as long as he has--is a graduate of The Mercersburg Academy (1953) and the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned a B.A. in Journalism in 1959 and a Master of Letters in 1960. He spent the next three years as a Lieutenant at the U.S. Air Force Missile Test Center, Foreign Technology Division, Cape Canaveral, Florida, supporting Project Mercury as Chief of the Reports Division. In July 1963, he became a contractor for the NASA Manned Spacecraft Center, Florida Operations, where he contributed to as well as managed the writing group handling Astronaut public relations and technical presentations throughout the Gemini and early Apollo programs. During that time, he wrote presentations for top NASA engineers, including G. Merritt Preston, Chief of Mercury Preflight Operations and Dr. Kurt H. Debus, Director of the John F. Kennedy Space Center, as well as produced the first in-depth public documents of the Gemini spacecraft -- the latter with Astronaut Wally Shirra.

At the Cape, Bill was intrigued by the burgeoning computer technology associated with spacecraft operations and in 1965 moved north to work as a Senior (lead) Presentations Writer for Burroughs Corporation (now UNISYS). In the Defense and Space Division of Burroughs, he began a second career as a computer programmer, happily immersed in leading-edge digital technology and programming methods. After an additional ten years in Advanced Software Technology with Xerox Corporation supporting the Palo Alto Research Center during its "Golden Age," he partially retired from the business world, but still spends much of his time staring into a CRT. His email address is -- vouldn't you know? -- borodov@aol.com.

Bill is a hopeless devotee of old-fashioned, nuts-and-bolts Space Opera, a life member of SFWA (Science-fiction and Fantasy Writers of America, Inc.), and a lover of classic mahogany Chris-Craft runabouts-particularly a meticulously restored 1951 Chris-Craft 18-foot Riviera named Merlin. He is a past president of the Wooden Boat Association of North Texas, a Director of both the RDC-Triangle (Raleigh-Durham-Chapel-Hill) and Chautauqua Lake Twin-Tier Chapters of the of the Antique and Classic Boat Society, Inc., and a Vice President of the Tar Heels Chapter of the Air Force Association. He is also Features Editor of The Brass Bell, Quarterly newsmagazine of the Chris-Craft Antique Boat Club, Inc. He and his wife, Pat, enjoy life in Dallas, Texas and Bemus Point, New York, under virtual control of a space-alien cat, Musetta (The Pumpkin Love Muffin).
